PBA: No plans to trade CJ Perez, says Columbian official

CJ Perez will continue to lead the way for the Columbian Dyip this 45th PBA Season.

No less than Bobby Rosales, PBA vice chairman and Columbian governor, confirmed this to the Manila Bulletin Tuesday during the pre-season press conference at Conrad Hotel in Pasay.

“We don’t have plans [to let him go.] Let’s put it that way,” Rosales said.

“He will be playing for the Columbian and that is the plan for the season. Any speculation is just not true.”

In fact, before the press conference, Rosales said he was able to talk to Perez’s manager  (PJ Pilarez) and he also denied the rumors.

Perez, the top pick of the 2018 PBA draft class, was linked to trade rumors following an impressive rookie stint, with fingers directed at San Miguel Beermen.

The 26-year-old guard is the league’s new leading scorer, averaging 20.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals last season.

The former Lyceum ace is also a frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year honors after garnering a statistical point average of 33.47.

That said, Rosales believes that the future is bright for Perez, who recently made headlines after helping Gilas Pilipinas rout the Indonesians 100-70 in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

“I’d like to believe that he’s happy playing for Columbian,” Rosales added.” “He’s getting the exposure that he needs. He’s very young and the future is really for him to make.
